This old fashioned new Glass Cheese Preserver makes a sophisticated gift for a cheese connoisseur.
Based on an original design from Cambridge Glass company of the c1930s when they were known as glass sanitary cheese preservers and used to store hard cheeses before regular refrigeration was available.
In order the miraculous cheese preserver to do its job and safely store cheeses you place one third pint vinegar and one teaspoon of salt in the bottom, slightly diluted with water. This liquid sits below the ridges so will not come into contact with the cheese, the vinegar and salt act as preserving agents and keep the preserver free of any undesirable moulds and bugs.
Suggested cheese to store in the cheese preserver are Cheddar, Emmentaler, Piave, Comte, Sbrinz, Parmesan and hard blues. Soft cheeses are still best stored in the fridge.
Also available is the matching Salt Cellar.
